Jo Nelson Middle School Academic/Attendance/Attitude Incentive Program
October 11, 2021
Parents, It is hard to believe that the first six-weeks of the school year has come to an end. At this time, we would like to introduce our 2021 – 2022 Academic/Attendance/Attitude Incentive Program which will reward students for positive Academics, Attendance and Attitude at the end of each six-week grading period. Below you will find the requirements and expectations that must have been met in order for a student to qualify to participate in the six-week incentive.
Students have successfully passed all classes for the six weeks with grade of 70 or above.
Students that exemplify the Student Code of Conduct on a daily basis in the classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, and other areas of the school will be eligible to participate in the Academic/Attendance/Attitude Incentive. Teachers will work with students daily to remind and encourage positive choices and behaviors. Incidents, however, will be documented through teacher file that could lead to Level I or Level II Referral. The conditions in which a student receives a Level I or Level II referral include and are not limited to: tardiness for class, dress code violations, being unprepared for class, disrupting classroom learning, and being disrespectful to any teacher.
Students will not be eligible to participate in the incentive at the end of the six weeks if they receive the following:
  • 3 - Level I Referrals
  • 1 - Level II Referral
School attendance matters. Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success. We realize some absences are unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances, but missing too much school, regardless of the reason, can cause students to fall behind academically. Therefore, in order to motivate our students to show up every day to school and ensure academic success, students with good attendance will be eligible to attend the Academic/Attendance/Attitude Incentive.
Students with 3 or more unexcused absences by the end of the six weeks grading period will be disqualified from the incentive.  Students will begin fresh each six weeks, however, any student disqualified from 2 or more incentive rewards is automatically disqualified from the grade level’s end-of-year activity.
The teachers and administration at JNMS thank you for your support in this matter.
